What is block scheduling at Wesley College Prep ?

Our block scheduling combines content material and practical application. These learning periods provide full credit matriculation of all course work required for a diploma as well as UC and CSU requirements. The integrated learning periods are broken into 3 blocks that allow for transitional critical thinking within core subjects that correlate with each other. They allow for  more diversity, expansion, and realism within the students' coursework and relation to their everyday life.

The Structure

Block 1 : 8:00am - 10:00am

Nutrition : 10:00am-10:30am

Block 2 :10:30am-12:30pm

Lunch : 12:30pm-1:00pm

Block 3 :1:00pm-3:00pm

The structure of the block scheduling allows a 2 hour learning period that integrates subjects to allow for a more flexible learning environment, while also challenging them to create a correlation of the given topics together. No matter what level of core subject placement (Math, English,Science,Social Science) the student is currently assigned to, the learning period outcomes will be individualized to meet the student course needs while also collaborating together with peers. These blended learning periods help keep engagement and critical thinking in an active state during the period.

Math & Science

Our math and science combine challenging coursework that involve analytical, problem solving, and objective thinking. Majority of math applications can be transitioned over into science to create a more dynamic approach to science in understanding diagnostics as proof as evidence.Science can also be used as content material when focusing on math to help bring more realism and engagement to the topic. A normal day for a student in this learning period could involve them using a math application such as a linear equation to calculate speed, distance and time of a moving object outside their classroom.

English & History

Our English and History learning periods combine a very well integrated and blended format that is efficiently successful in improving language skills while also applying English language applications to real life events in history. This learning period experience will be improving and enhancing critical thinking, organization, and consciousness. A typical day for a student could involve them learning about inferences in their English component, and applying it to political cartoons from WW2, focusing on the meaning while the author is explaining through the use of inference clues and meaning.

Electives. This learning period will consist of the student’s elective coursework that could involve foreign language, art, and any other coursework the student decides to register for. All electives are UC and CSU approved in order to fulfill requirements for  entrance into a 4 year institution.
